PRYSM Grant. The Chicago Resource Center, a foundation that gives heavily to lesbian-gay organizations nationwide, has awarded $8,500 to the Center's youth group PRYSM, Presence and Respect for Youth in Sexual Minority. The grant will support training that PRYSM plans to offer the Cleveland Board of Education on homophobia and lesbian-gay youth con-
cerns.
Maryann Finegan Project. The Center's victim assistance project provided sensitivity training November 8 to the city's Community Relations Board. The board has many responsibilities, including response to episodes of anti-gay violence and harassment. Similar sessions are provided by the Center to new Cleveland police cadets as part of their required training.
On the Road Again. Chronicle publisher Martha Pontoni and Stonewall Cleveland president Karen Schneiderman joined Aubrey Wertheim at Fairmount Temple October 23. The three spoke to the Fairmount Temple Sisterhood on incorporating lesbians and gays into the Jewish community.
The Center also joined the Chronicle and the National Abortion Rights Action League in sharing a table at the "Options for Women" conference November 9-10 at the Cleveland Convention Center.
Living Room Grows. Activity at the Living Room, the Center's program for people in the HIV spectrum, has taken off the past few months. Under the skillful guidance of Sharon Thomas and Kyle, many new and exciting activities have been added to the calendar.
December, 1990
The Living Room achieved a record 204 client visits in October, and at press time, 151 client visits have already been recorded in November.
Look for Kyle's Living Room column elsewhere in this paper, or call the Living Room at 522-1998 for more information.
MacDonald Room. One service the Center offers is rental of the MacDonald Room to lesbian-gay organizations and programs. Demand is heavy, but some openings are occasionally available. The rent is reasonable ($1.00 per person per meeting) and the location couldn't be better. If your group is looking for a place to meet, give us a try. Call the office at 5221999.
Our newest tenant at the Center is the Mental Health Consumers Gay-Lesbian Support Group. The group meets Sundays at 7:30 pm. Call the hotline at 781-6736 for more information.
Annual Meeting. The Center held its 1990 Annual Meeting October 23 in the MacDonald Room. An overflow crowd spilled into the corridor as volunteers for the Maryann Finegan Project presented a sample sensitivity training session like those given the police. Cleveland Assistant Safety Director Barry Withers also addressed the meeting. That was the exciting stuff. Board elections and amendments to bylaws were also voted on.
Newsletter. There's more going on at the Center than we can write here, but you can still hear about it. The newest issue of our newsletter is now out and available to all Center members. Membership is inexpensive but vital to the growth and success of the Center. And, you get to help govern the Center at our membership meetings through Board elections and other votes.
If you'd like to join and get our newsletter, give us a call at 522-1999.
Printer Wars. Finally, we close with a high-tech appeal to you computer buffs or other generous folks out there. The Center needs an IBM-compatible laser printer in new or good condition. We'll just set it on stun, which I'm sure it'll do when compared to our current dot matrix printer. Enjoy the holidays and have a Gay New Year!
